A former leading fashion model who was 5'10'' tall, Carey was a favorite with high-end American fashion designers like Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Her father, a distinguished scientist who won the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists' 1979 Scientist of Year award, is a renowned geologist. As a result of his career Carey has been raised across the globe. She started modeling part time during her time attending the University of Colorado and caught the attention of a representative for the Ford model Agency in New York. She lived in France for a short time, including Paris and Bordeaux. Then she returned home to New York for her college study and further to build her modeling career. She was a full-time student in New York University, obtaining her degree in literature while working on modeling assignments. Her interest grew in acting and started taking classes in the Neighborhood Playhouse of New York. She began her acting career through a tiny character in 'Club Pardise" in 1986, starring Robin Williams. She enjoys rock climbing ski, windsurfing, and skiing.
